  • TISA is an international school, but does that mean that we are internationally minded?

  • How do we demonstrate our international mindedness across the school from P1 to DP2?

  • Why is international mindedness so important right now?

These are just some of the questions Primary and Secondary School teachers worked together to answer at the IB International Mindedness Workshop led by Janice Humpleby of Tashkent International School.

With TISA International Day right around the corner we examined how we help our students to become culturally competent, multilingual and active global citizens. We took a hard look at how we as teachers and a community can model these behaviours everyday.  We also explored how the IB Learner Profile encourages us to live the international mindedness ideals every day.

Some particularly powerful conversations arose in response to this RSA Animation advocating "Outrospection" and making a case for the importance of empathy in the 21st century.

As we celebrate International Day from the Nursery to DP2 in the coming days, we'll be encouraging students to make these connections as well. By learning more about the cultures of our classmates, celebrating our languages and taking action on global issues in the curriculum we're moving from being international just because we come from different places, to being internationally minded because we embrace these differences.
