Action is learning by doing and experiencing. Service is part of action and it is where IB learners strive to be caring members of the local and global community, by demonstrating personal commitment to services that make a difference to the lives of others and the environment.

M1A reached the end of their current Service activity this week which culminated in the soaking of Mr Bradley. They extended work that they had done in Science about how most water in the world is not suitable to drink and then investigated the extent of this issue. They decided they needed to raise awareness of the issue and in doing so raise some money to support projects helping communities in Azerbaijan with this very issue.

They decided to run a soak the teacher competition and link it with an awareness video. At first they thought that soaking a teacher was not the right way to do this as this could be deemed a waste of water. However, after a long debate they decided that if this provoked them discussing about wasting water and the lack of clean water then this was a perfect way to get others involved in the debate and achieve the awareness they wanted while also raising money and soaking a teacher in the process.

A big well done to M1A who organised themselves and arranged the research, publicity of the event, awareness and money raising on their own initiative. A massive thank you to Mr Bradley who was a good sport and braved the freezing temperature to be soaked in front of the secondary school. Thank you also for the teachers who put themselves up for the soaking and helped raised almost 300 Manat - Mr Caskie, Mr Cowan, Mr Dan (P8) and Mr Monaghan.
