MYP

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) sciences framework at The International School of Azerbaijan encourages students to investigate issues through research, observation and experimentation, working independently and collaboratively.  As students investigate real examples of science application, they will discover the tensions and dependencies between science and morality, ethics, culture, economics, politics, and the environment.  Scientific inquiry fosters critical and creative thinking about research and design, as well as the identification of assumptions and alternative explanations.

Through science at TISA, students will learn to appreciate and respect the ideas of others, gain good ethical-reasoning skills and further develop their sense of responsibility as members of local and global communities from a scientific point of view.

M1 - M3
The M1 - M3 science course is structured in an integrated approach where the science subjects of chemistry, biology, earth science and physics are integrated in units of inquiry.  Often units will incorporate many aspects of the design inquiry cycle.  Units are designed around real world factual, conceptual and debatable inquiry questions that ensure students are engaged in a critical manner.

M4 - M5
The M4 and M5 science course is structured very similar to the integrated approach however the focus shifts towards the structure of the Diploma Programme.  Students are given more in-depth opportunities to study chemistry, physics and biology that will ensure students have the necessary academic skills and approaches to learning skills to be successful in the Diploma Programme.  Often units will incorporate many aspects of the design inquiry cycle.
